Gurugram (Haryana): Gurugram Police have detained 13 suspected Bangladeshi nationals who were allegedly living illegally in the city and have begun the process of deporting them, an official said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Naveen Sharma said the Crime Branch had received information about a month ago that some Bangladeshi nationals were allegedly staying illegally in India and working as labourers at different places in Gurugram.
“Following this information, the team detained 13 Bangladeshi nationals who were residing in the country illegally. After checking their documents, it was established that they had entered India unlawfully. As a result, the procedure for their deportation was started,” Sharma said.
He said the 13 detainees are being taken to Malda Town in West Bengal under the escort of an inspector and a team of 23 police personnel. They will be handed over to the security agencies there for further deportation proceedings.
According to Sharma, the detained persons had been staying in different areas of Gurugram, working as labourers and living in rented premises.
The ACP also urged the public to cooperate with law-enforcement authorities by reporting people they find suspicious.
“We request all citizens to support national security. If you notice suspicious individuals among tenants, labourers, domestic workers, hotel employees or construction workers, please report the matter by calling 112 or contacting the nearest police station,” he said.
